ENTROPY
ENTROPY
Sofia Karakatsanis
Entropy (2022) was the beginning of the exploration into the bleaching process. Carved from sycamore, the top echoes the form of Turbulence, with a perfect, smooth top falling away to a heavily carved underside. The hollows create an organic outline to the table top, reminiscent of a cliff edge. It sits on a pedestal leg with three feet branching off. This piece is carved from sycamore, the smooth finish of the legs echoing the tight grained feel of sycamore. The bleaching process involves exposing the wood to liquid chemicals in order to draw out the tannin, and then bleach. This creates a bone-like finish, contrasting in both colour and texture with the scorched work.
