RICHARD GOLDSWORTHY
Richard Goldsworthy is an artist and maker based in the Scottish Borders, who began his practice in 2019 after graduating from Edinburgh College of Art with a degree in Sculpture. Specializing in sculptural works, objects and wall pieces. Richard combines wood and pewter to explore the relationship between natural materials and craftsmanship. He has developed a deep fascination with the texture and grain of wood, particularly how it interacts with metals like pewter, which has become a core element in his work.
Inspired by organic forms and the natural world, Richard’s body of work is defined by a minimalist yet tactile aesthetic. Materials such as walnut, ash, oak, sycamore and many more play a central role, with techniques like charring and pewter casting used to highlight the inherent qualities of each material. The contrast between the wood grain, metal, and charring creates a visually striking balance that defines his sculptural style. Sustainability is also a key consideration, with Richard sourcing wood from naturally fallen or sustainably managed trees and incorporating second-hand pewter into his pieces.
Richard approaches each project with a focus on craftsmanship, allowing the materials to guide the creative process. His work emphasizes experimentation, seeking innovative ways to blend traditional techniques with contemporary forms. This constant exploration drives innovation, resulting in a body of work that is both conceptually rich and visually compelling.
