EMMELY ELGERSMA
Emmely began her creative journey in 2009, combining her studies in textile design with hands-on experience in a ceramic studio. This background, along with evening classes, sparked her fascination with materials and led her to pursue an MA in Fine Art. Her practice centers on curiosity and continual exploration, always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with familiar materials.
Emmely’s work is inspired by discarded objects she finds in unexpected places, often items left on the street or in recycling bins. She reimagines these overlooked materials, transforming them into functional, artistic pieces that reveal the beauty and purpose in everyday objects. This sustainable approach encourages viewers to see value in what might otherwise be discarded.
Material exploration is key to her practice. Working with recycled materials like ceramics and papier-mâché, she lets each material’s unique properties guide its transformation, creating tactile, engaging pieces that bridge art, utility, and environmental consciousness.
Emmely’s design methodology emphasises sustainability, experimentation, and adaptability. Her ethos of giving new life to forgotten materials drives her aesthetic, reflecting a commitment to responsible, impactful design that resonates with people’s daily lives.
