Britney Lee is a designer from Southern California! Her artistic practice explores the intersection of material agency, existential philosophy, and the act of making. Grounded in her background in mechanical engineering from Stanford University, her work challenges the dominant culture of control and optimisation she experienced in Silicon Valley. Instead of forcing materials into predetermined forms she invites unpredictability and responsiveness, allowing materials to guide the final outcome. Her practice is deeply influenced by the belief that natural processes, not human will, are the true shapers of our world. In this way, her furniture becomes a site where intention meets surrender, where making is an act of collaboration between the designer and the material. Rooted in the existential thought of Sartre and de Beauvoir, her work embraces freedom, uncertainty, and the beauty of relinquishing control.
