Reuben Porter is a British furniture designer and maker, recently graduating from Birmingham School of Art and Design. Since launching his own practice in 2024, Reuben has quickly gained recognition, earning multiple accolades including the prestigious Terence Conran Award at New Designers 2025. Reuben’s work is rooted in a deep exploration of design history, often questioning how the past can be re-contemporised through a modern lens. His creative process is intentionally fluid, allowing material and concept to evolve in tandem. This approach spans a broad spectrum, from creating bespoke, hand-crafted furniture designed to bring people together, made from personally sourced and seasoned Douglas fir, to developing commercially focused pieces that explore surprising comfort and versatile seating through experimental laminating techniques in Ash. At the heart of Reuben’s practice is thoughtful, tactile, and deep engagement with material with sole commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and thoughtful design.
