Collection: PULP SCULPTUUR

Annie Strachan is an artist and craftsperson who relies on recycled and repurposed materials to produce functional art objects intended for everyday use in the home. She began experimenting with papier-mache, pushing the limitations of this material, after becoming interested in the lack of value placed upon folk art and domestic crafts, versus more traditional sculpture materials. She believes this disparity has led to a view that this is somehow a less coveted medium, despite it taking longer to process than, for example, clay. Each of her pieces is designed and produced entirely by hand in her garden studio and takes around 2 months to complete. Her work is informed by an emphasis on functionality, with the intended purpose being that these will go on to live otherwise normal lives, in everyday spaces whilst retaining their weirdness and unique qualities of being entirely handcrafted.
