CAROLINE GRAY CERAMICS
Caroline Gray initially trained in textile design and had a career in trend forecasting before completing an MA in Fine Art specialising in sculpture and installation. Informed by her background in design and fine art, her sculptural abstract works and vessels celebrate colour and form, designed to create an interplay between the pieces themselves and the interiors and spaces they are placed in.
The flat pattern or template is central to her process. Her free-hand slab building technique allows each initial piece to evolve intuitively as she alters, splices and rejoins the clay to create the curves, planes and angles which render each piece subtly unique. The slow, contemplative process of hand-building is at the heart of her practice as is the use of coloured terra sigillata, a super-refined slip which reveals every minute imperfection' and fine detail of the hand-made process.
